Srinagar: A pro at computers, an aspiring scientist and a child determined to chase her dreams, Bazila Nazir is like all children her age, but unlike them, it's a hard road to glory for Bazila.
A speeding passenger vehicle hit her when she was walking home from school one day leaving her limbs twisted, in need of amputation.
However, the tragedy though could not crush the sparkle in her eyes and her spirit.
"I was coming back from school when I was hit by a bus. From that day I have become an amputee. I want to be a scientist," says she, all in one breath.
And it was her never say die spirit which caught the attention of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. He has promised to bear all her medical expenses and to begin with, has donated Rs 13 lakh to the family.
Bazila's father, Nazir Ahmad Dar says, "To bring her to her normal state, a lot of therapies are required. She also needs physiological and psychiatric support as well as a high tech-prosthetic treatment. She is 100 per cent disabled. Ghulam Nabi Azad and his wife, Shamima have shown tremendous love and affection to share our grief and we have no words to thank them.''
And when one asks Bazila what she would do if the Chief Minister ever needed her help in return, pat comes the eight-year-old's reply, "Woh toh itne amir hai, main kya unki help karoon. (He is a rich man, how can I help him?")
This defiant and determined child wants to live life to the fullest and the Chief Minister's gift is like a second chance at life for her.
