New Delhi: Terrorism has no place in civil society—that's the declaration leading Islamic seminary Darul Uloom is scheduled to adopt on Monday.
Leading Muslim organisations from across the countries are meeting in Deoband, the seminary’s seat in Uttar Pradesh, to adopt a declaration denouncing terrorism and declaring it "un-Islamic".
Darul Uloom spokesperson Ashraf Usmani said representatives from about 6,000 madrasas, leading clerics and foreign delegates will also be present.
Top on the agenda will be requesting Muslims to stay away from acts of terrorism and organisations that encourage violence in the name of religion.
"Terrorism has no place in a civil society," said Maulana Abdul Hameed Nomani, Islamic scholar and spokesman of Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Hind.
All acts of terrorism and killing of innocent people of any religion are strictly prohibited, he said.
"We have received invitation and our representatives will participate in the anti-terrorism conference," said Maulana Kalbe Jawwad, a prominent Shia cleric and General Secretary of Majlis-e-Ulema-e-Hind.
The conference will ask the Muslim community to stay away from acts of terrorism and organisations that encourage violence in the name of religion, he said, adding: "we condemn terrorism and killing of innocent people."
