Tough task ahead for royal Raje

Jaipur: For Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, who rode the high of getting the controversial 'Women Together' award in New York for her walk down the ramp to 'benefit the weavers', a burning Rajasthan was the last thing she could have thought of when she would return.

The violence is now snowballing into a major political crisis. From the members of the Opposition to some within her own the BJP are all accusing her of not reading the pulse of the people.

"She's directly responsible for all this violence, she is disconnected from the reality only knows how to give provocative speeches which work to flare up the situation even more,” says AICC, General Secretary, Jaipur, Ashok Gehlot.

For the last one year there have been many BJP MLAs who have been lobbying for her removal. Some are now looking at the latest situation as an opportunity to hit out at her. Six MLAs including two ministers all from the Gurjar community are now threatening to resign.

"We've been warning the Chief Minister about this but she's not taken it seriously, now we have no ways to save our faces before our people, if this continues we will resign,” says BJP MLA, Bayana, Attar Singh Bhadhana.

The Meena tribe in the state, which falls under the ST category, has now threatened to launch agitations if the government concedes to the Gurjars' demands and includes them in the ST list. But the Raje's way of dealing with this is giving the people a lesson or two on the their traditions.

"This is not our tradition in Rajasthan, there are ways of making ones point. I will not let these people succeed,” says Raje.

But unless the maharani, as Raje is popularly known, steps down and thinks like her praja (public), it could well be a recipe for disaster for the BJP in the upcoming assembly elections in Rajasthan.
