New Delhi: The hotel and tourism industry, badly affected by the global meltdown and now the Mumbai terror attack, may get a boost from Tourism Minister Ambika Soni.
With peak season for tourists here, Tourism Minister Ambika Soni plans to come out with an advertisement to assure tourists that India is a safe destination.
This after many foreigners have either put on hold or cancelled their India travel plans following the Mumbai terror attacks.
But the plan needs the approvals of the finance ministry, home ministry and the ministry of external affairs.
Tourism Minister Ambika Soni said that her ministry is working in close collaboration with the ministry of external affairs to ensure the international community that India is a safe destination for tourists.
“We won't tolerate India being named as one of the twenty most dangerous countries in the world. We are taking proactive steps in collaboration with the MEA and the advisories have now been toned down,” she said.
The government is also considering a cut in luxury tax for the tourism and hospitality sector. October to March is the time when India normally gets the highest number of tourists.
