Srinagar: Tourists are under attack in Kashmir but that won’t scare some people away for their dream trip to the Valley.
Twenty-five tourists were injured in a grenade attack in Srinagar on Thursday and before that there were four attacks in two months. But a day after the grenade attack on a tourist bus in Dalgate, there is no sign that visitors are fleeing the city.
Nishat Garden on Thursday was packed with tourists. They clicked photos, put on Kashmiri dresses and splashed in the fountain.
“Mishaps happen in every place. We should come to Kashmir and enjoy. It’s after all a part of our country,” said Shankar, a tourist from Bengal.
There were widespread fears that the latest attack would deter tourists from visiting Kashmir. Not Nadeem Ahmed. Ahmed, who is from West Bengal, says he going to stay back and enjoy his trip.
Tourism is Kashmir’s biggest industry and it certainly wouldn’t want it to be affected. Shopkeepers near Nishat Garden shut shops on Thursday to protest against increasing violence against tourists.
Interestingly, no militant outfit has owned these attacks. In fact, the Lashkar and Al Mansoorian have condemned attacks on tourists.
