Thiruvananthapuram: MP Shashi Tharoor has taken up the need for urgently extending financial assistance to A Munaf, the Kerala University employee who was grievously injured in the accidental firing incident which occurred on Friday last at Central Railway Station here, with Union Railway Minister Mukul Roy.
In a letter addressed to the Union Minister on Tuesday, the MP pointed out that the incident occurred owing to the carelessness of the RPF personnel. Notwithstanding the internal inquiry announced by Railways, the whole incident called for an immediate and worthy response from the Railways to help the hapless victim. Any further delay on this account would sully the image of the Railways in the public, he reminded.
Assistance to meet all the expenses on the immediate medical treatment of Munaf, whose life was saved due to the timely surgery he underwent at a specialist hospital in the city, should be announced immediately, Tharoor urged. Apart from the immediate financial assistance, there was also a strong need for extending all the necessary financial and other material assistance to help the victim, till he recovers and regains his health to get back to a normal life.
A copy of the letter has also been sent to Railway Board Chairman Vinay Mittal.
