Kashmir: The first train across the Kashmir valley is scheduled to begin its run from August this year. And most people have big expectations of the world's second highest railway line.

It will start running from Qazigund to Baramullah in August and Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad is planning to inaugurate the prestigious project on Independence Day.

"We have done 66 km of the rail in Kashmir and would be able to run the train from Qazigund to Baramulla from August. The train will boost economy of the place and many people will get job in the railways," Lalu Yadav says.

The Kashmir railway line will be the second highest in the world after the Qinghai-Tibet rail line.

Last year the rail engines and bogies were brought to Srinagar by road. Several dry runs were carried out along the completed tracks.

"This train is a gift to people of Kashmir. It is a luxurious train with good seating capacity, heating arrangement and music system. The names of stations will also be announced in the train," train driver Malkait Singh says.

Train within Kashmir will become a possibility in August, but train from the Valleyv to the rest of the country will take another five years.

That is because a lot of tunneling is still required to connect Qazigund in Kashmir to Katra in Jammu.
