b a d ) Limi t e d (LTMRHL), on Friday inaugurated the Hyderabad Metro Rail
Project – Construction Skills Development Centres (training facilities) at the
Uppal Depot and the precast yard.
The
new training centres have been established to provide short-term training to workmen
in trades like formwork, bar-bending, pre-casting, erection, welding,
scaffolding etc.
“The
objective of these training centres is to evaluate and identify skill deficiency/shortfall
with the workmen during their induction and provide hands-on training in the
respective tasks and make them deployable onsite.
L&T
as a part of the skill development initiative and corporate social
responsibility is imparting skills training, which will contribute to nation
building as well,” said Gadgil. He added that LTMRHL is committed to facilitate
employment generation and that this activity is the starting step for that.
The
new centres have been built specifically to train workers on the maintenance
and usage of right tools, orientation and awareness on the vulnerability of
working laces, adoption of safe work methodology and discipline, and proper
utilisation of suitable safety gears.
Approximately
80 workmen will be trained per month from each training centre. Training period
will vary from 3 to 7 days for each
task, based on respective tasks. 90 percent of the duration will be on job
training.
The new training centres are equipped with hands-on
training yards with mock ups in a plot of 20 m X 60 m, a display hall of 3 m X 15 m with different tools, charts and scale models,
including sufficient number of tool sets and training materials like formwork systems,
re-bar etc.
