Milestones

Antiquity: Gymnastics is practiced in ancient Greece, India, Persia and China.

1896: Gymnastics are on the agenda at the first modern Olympic Games in Greece.

1920: Two trapeze artists invent the trampoline by performing a series of jumps and moves on the security net.

1926: American PE professor George Nissen creates the first trampoline prototype.

1964: Creation of the International Trampoline Federation in Frankfurt, West Germany. The first world championships take place in London.

2000: The trampline event makes its Olympic debut in Sydney.

Stars

Alexandre Moskalenko (Russia): The Russian bouncer. Gold medallist at Sydney 2000, he became the first trampoline Olympic champion. At Athens four years later the Russian settled for Olympic silver but with five world titles (1990, 1992, 1994, 1999, 2001), he is one of the symbols of the sport.
