Agartala: In a shocking incident, a tribal woman was beaten up and paraded naked on the directions of a kangaroo court in Dhalai district for alleged sexual misconduct, prompting the Tripura government to order a CID inquiry.
The 30-year-old woman of Dalucherra village, about 130 km from Agartala, underwent the humiliation on June five, police sources said on Thursday.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar condemned the incident in the state Assembly and ordered a CID investigation.
"It is a condemnable incident that in the name of a kangaroo court a woman was tortured. A CID inquiry has been ordered into the barbaric incident. Any person found guilty, irrespective of any political affiliation will be punished according to law," Sarkar told the Assembly on Wednesday.
Fifteen people have been arrested in connection with the incident, police said.
