New Delhi: For the Trinamool Congress more important than Cabinet berths is the possibility of wresting West Bengal from the Communist Party of India-Marxist.
The Mamata Banerjee-led party wants the Left Front government dissolved in the state.
"Our party's main aim is the removal of Left Front government in Kolkata and by 2011 to have a Trinamool Congress coalition to have in place," said Trinamool leader Sougata Roy.
When asked if Trinamool was willing to wait till 2011 for a change in government. Roy replied, "No, no! We may not be willing to wait till then. I said that elections are due in 2011. Logic demands that elections should be held before that. On the ground it (Left Front government) does not have a majority among the people. Ministries have been dismissed before and can be dismissed again. Trinamool Congress will make this demand but it is not a question of bargaining, it is a matter of faith. In 1977 Charan Singh dismissed nine ministries in one go on the ground that those ministries had lost their faith,"
However, senior Communist Party of India leader D Raja slammed Trinamool's stand.
"I do not agree with them. If they want to dismiss let them dismiss. Let them tell people how they respect democracy. There is a Constitution; there is a rule of law. How can they dismiss an elected government like this? If something happens in one election... that can't decide the destiny of the entire state forever. We are introspecting what led to this kind of result," said Raja.
