Nagpur: Monica and Rohini Raut, daughters of a truck driver in Nagpur have have assured their place in history by winning a gold and a silver medal at the Ninth Asian Cross Country in Jordan.
Their win is becomes more special because the fact that the two girls are the first Indians to have achieved this landmark in an individual category.
“I couldn't believe I won the medal. I was very happy when my coach told me I was the first Indian woman to win it,” says Monica.
The sisters, to whom success isn't new, are now giving their board examinations and are determined to do well in them.
They have won a string of trophies in the last two years in domestic events and they are now gearing up for the biggest event of the sporting world.
“I hope I do well in the Olympics and win a medal,” says Monica.
But their coach, Gurudeo Nagrale says that the run to success hasn't been a cakewalk.
“Sometimes we don't get train reservations and we have to travel in general class,” says Nagrale
The journey of the twins from a small hut to winning gold and silver at an international event has not been as easy one.
And though they dream to bag an Olympic gold some day, unfortunately the government has still not provided them a platform from where they can work towards fulfilling their dreams.
