New Delhi: In another road rage incident on Tuesday, three Kanwariyas were killed and two others injured when a truck hit them on the Delhi-Jaipur highway. Kanwariyas are pilgrims returning with waters of the Ganga River from Haridwar

The incident lead to protests from hundreds of devotees and locals, who blocked the Delhi-Jaipur highway and set afire seven vehicles, including those belonging to the police.

The deceased were identified as Krishna Kumar and Lilu, both residents of Bhagola in Rajasthan, police said. The truck driver fled the spot, after which the Kanwarias blocked traffic on NH 8, police said.

The agitated Kanwarias, who were joined by villagers of Manesar, set afire seven vehicles including the car of DCP Headquarters, Gurgaon, and two Haryana Roadways buses. They also torched the truck that hit the victims, police said.

The blockade has led to a massive traffic jam on the route with vehicles lined up for nearly 25 kms.

Meanwhile security has been beefed up in the area.

Last month, Kanwariyas had torched another police car and other vehicles when one of them was killed and three others were injured in an accident near Gurgaon in Delhi suburbs.
