Transport minister clueless about strike

New Delhi: Nearly 17 lakh trucks are off the road across the country for the sixth day and the country's Transport Minister is yet to decide on whether to negotiate or not.

“I am ready to talk even now,” says Transport Minister T R Baalu.

The top leaders of the striking All India Motor Transport Congress has been arrested, state governments has been adviced to hire 15 lakh trucks and put them into action.

A press conference was called by the Transport ministry to tell the countrymen what exactly they are planning to do to end the strike but that left everyone laughing and most of the people confused.

Even the country's Transport Secretary was in splits as his minister kept making one faux pas after another.

That's why Prime Minister Manmohan Singh rebuked him for being away from the Delhi while the strike was on and then failing to attend a cabinet meeting on Friday. But, a day later Baalu still seemed clueless.

He is meeting all state transport ministers on Monday but then one cannot guarantee that there won't be a repeat performance of this.
