Truth is our defence: Mid-Day Editor

Resident Editor of Mid-Day, Vitusha Oberoi, spoke with CNN-IBN from outside the Dlehi High Court on the line of defence that was taken in the court.

CNN-IBN: What was the lawyer’s stand in the court?

Oberoi: The lawyer did not take any different stand than what we did in the last hearing. Our stand remains same – we are pleading not guilty. Truth is our defence.

CNN-IBN: During the trial was any reference made by you or your lawyer about the allegations that Delhi Mid-Day was making?

Oberoi: Throughout it was a contention. We were quoting from documents Mid-Day has. That’s the entire case

CNN-IBN: What was court’s standpoint when you asked for a scrutiny of the allegations made by you. Did the court offer to listen to it?

Oberoi: The judgement was very precise. It just focused on certain aspects and it was quiet on others.

CNN-IBN: Now that the High Court has pronounced its judgement, what next?

Oberoi: We will challenge this before Supreme Court. We already have. On 28th, SC will take up our case.

Editor of Outlook magazine, Vinod Mehta, who called for an investigation into the charges against the former Chief Justice.

“All of us must show support to these four journalists. It is some sort of outrage completely uncalled for. This kind of contempt of court must be looked into. I think Sabharwal must welcome an investigation to clear his name. The SC can decide the manner of investigation. All we are saying there should be an investigation,” he said.
