Srinagar: Ghulam Mohammad Mir is livid. Eighteen months after the killer quake flattened his house, fear revisited his family again with Tuesday morning's tremors.

The tremors, like before in the region, has once again damaged his house and cracks can be seen running up the walls of the ramshackle building.

“I thought the house is going to fall on me. I rushed the children out,” says Mohammad.

Only an hour's drive from Srinagar, Kangan along with Uri, Tangdhar and Kupwara is vulnerable to the tremors because of the hilly topography. More than 100 houses are reported to have collapsed in the area.

While the authorities claim there is no loss of lifer or damage to property, the village adjacent to the village has a different story to tell.

People in state capital Srinagar too panicked and rushed out of their homes when the quake hit.

“I was in my house when it began to shake. My mother told me to run out,” says a resident of Srinagar.

Untimely snow, vagaries of weather and now tremors, it seems heaven on earth is bearing the brunt of nature's wrath these days.
