CHENNAI: Following registration of an FIR, small screen actor and ‘Thirumathi Selvam’ fame Arunkanth alias Tinku (33) of Maduravoil has moved the court of Principal Sessions Judge (PSJ) seeking advance bail.
In her complaint to the Thirumangalam police, A Supriya of Mogappair alleged that she got married to Tinku in 2000 and the same was registered on November 10, 2000. Later, an arranged marriage took place on November 1, 2004. At the time of marriage, Tinku was given 100 sovereigns of gold and diamond jewels worth about Rs 30 lakh plus other items. Tinku demanded a new car and with great difficulty Supriya’s father purchased an Indica car in 2005 in his name.
She gave birth to a female child in September, 2006. Despite all this, she was ill-treated by her husband and in-laws. While so, Tinku married another girl Kavitha, also an actor in TV serials, in July, 2009, Supriya further alleged. Alleging that Tinku and his mother jointly conspired and took away all her jewellery by pledging and selling them without her knowledge, Supriya lodged the complaint to punish them for criminal breach of trust, cheating and under the Dowry Prohibition Act. And the police registered an FIR for offences under Sections 498-A and 494 of the IPC and under Sec 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
Fearing arrest, Tinku filed the present anticipatory bail application. He, however, did not deny his marriage with Supriya. When the matter came up before the PSJ on September 30, senior advocate A Natarajan, appearing for Supriya, opposed grant of any relief to Tinku. The judge adjourned the matter till October 20, with a direction to the estranged couple to appear for matrimonial counselling on October 19.
