New Delhi: He has swept Thiruvananthapuram like no one has ever done in 30 years. Yet, in the middle of all that madness former UN diplomat Shashi Tharoor found time to Tweet.
Tharoor isn't alone, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, too, are on Twitter, posting updates.
After Facebook, Twitter's seems to be the latest in thing to do online. Though, this is hardly a new phenomenon in the web world.
Counting day on Saturday proved it is just as popular in India. Election-related messages labelled hash Indiavotes09 became the number one trend on Twitter with the BJP trailing close behind.
Even Swine Flu in the US hasn't created as much of a buzz on the site.
After America and Germany, India has the maximum number of Twitteratis, with more than five lakh dedicated users.
Most seem to come from the metros and judging by the posts they are fiercely interested in how the nation runs. By mocking loud TV anchors, offering post poll analysis, and articles that explain the results better – India's Twitter community is pointing to the future – when news will be made and reported not on the idiot box – but on your PC.
