Bhubaneshwar: In a medical wonder a woman gave birth to son and a daughter 40 days apart.
Twenty-five -year-old Babina Patra of Nadikhandi Sahi village in the Kandhamal district of Orissa gave birth to a son on on April 27 and then 40 days later on June 6 she gave birth to a daughter.
Both deliveries were reported to be normal and Babina could not have asked for more considering such complicated cases can prove fatal to both the babies and the mother.
"I am so happy to know that both my babies are healthy. I was told that there might be danger to their lives. But the doctor did a wonderful job," Babina says.
The gynaecologist who monitored the delivery says that such cases are very rare. And that in spite of the age difference the babies are called twins because the mother developed binovular pregnancy.
"After the first delivery when we found in the ultrasound report that the second baby is growing well separately, we allowed her to grow. There were two separate uterus cavity and two different placentas. It's very rare," Dr Surendra Kumar Mohanty, Gynecologist, Phulbani District Hospital, says.
