CUTTACK: Two Plus Two students were feared drowned in the Mahanadi while bathing on Friday. The teens __ Amiya Behera (17) of Alisha Bazaar and Bidyadhar Jena (18) of CDA Sector 7, Markatnagar __ were missing till reports last came in even as Fire Services and ODRAF personnel continued their search in the river.
According to reports, the duo along with three other boys had come to the river banks at Chahata Ghat at around 4 pm in the afternoon. All entered the waters with the purpose of bathing. Amiya and Bidyadhar reportedly ventured into the deep zone without knowing how to swim. Their companions were also caught in the deep waters but were rescued by the locals.
Police and fire brigade rushed to the spot on being informed. The ODRAF unit was also called in to take part in the search and rescue operations. An unit of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has also been pressed into the service and search operation will continue on Saturday, said Fire Officer Chandramani Routray.
