Jaipur: Two Indian nationals from Jaisalmer have been arrested on charges of spying for Pakistani intelligence agencies with police believing the arrests could just be the tip of the iceberg.

Spying by residents of border districts is growing into a major concern for Indian intelligence agencies.

The two people arrested are Morey Khan and Abban Khan, both residents of Rajasthan's Khuiyala village. The duo has been arrested under Official Secrets Act.

They used their phones to pass on information to the Pakistani intelligence agencies and were paid for the information.

Both used to pass on information about infrastructural facilities of the Indian Army at the border, helipads in the border areas and details about oil and water pipelines.

"They've both been to Pakistan and when they went there Pakistani intelligence agencies targeted them. They have also been paid money through account transfer," said ADG (Intelligence) MK Devarajan.

Both Morey Khan and Abban Khan had visited Pakistan after which they began passing on information.

But they are not the first.

Maula Bax, a resident of the same village was earlier arrested for spying as well.

What is really worrying is that Pakistan intelligence agencies are also harassing other Indians visiting their country with an Indian citizen Kishore Sharma claiming he has been a victim.

"They asked me about petrol in Barmer, about coal, about Uttarlai, about our military bases. That's what they wanted to know," said Barmer resident Kishore Sharma.

Proximity to Pakistan is making border districts of Barmer and Jaisalmer vulnerable to becoming hubs for the Pakistani intelligence agencies to operate.

But questioning of the Thar Express passengers to extract sensitive information has send the alarm bells ringing.
