Two suspected Indian Mujahideen men held

New Delhi: The Karnataka Police have arrested two persons suspected of being involved with the serial blasts across the country. Some explosive material has also been seized.

The two men arrested have been identified as Rafique and Fakeer Ahmed alias Fakeer Bawa. They are believed to have links with the Indian Mujahideen (IM). Police are investigating whether the arrested had links to the banned SIMI outfit as well.

The police raided two houses in Chikmagalur district based upon information provided by the suspects and have recovered explosive material, weapons and electrical kits.

Rafique who was picked up from Bantlur apparently led the police to Fakeer, who was later arrested from Mallur in Udupi district on Friday night. Fakeer claims he brought IM chief, Riyaz Bhatkal to Chikmagalur.

The arrests come close to a joint operation by Mumbai and Karnataka Police earlier this month. Investigations are on and the Karnataka Police are continuing with their interrogation of the suspects.

Police claimed Rafique, during interrogation, said Fakeer had also brought Ahmed Yasin, Ahmed Bawa, Badabhai, Chotabai and Moosa to Hakkalamane and Vitlamakki in Chikmagalur district along with IM chief, Bhatkal.

He had also been in Dubai for six years and was preparing to return to Indonesia, where he had been based for some time now. Fakeer recently came to India and was actively involved in fund raising activities to support terror network

The arrested men have confessed that their Chikmagalur hideout was being used as a bomb manufacturing unit and they had conducted bomb blast trials in forest area, a police official said.

They also had a rifle and a pistol target practice.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Police have asked the Mumbai Police to handover the four men arrested by them on October 3 for further interrogation.

The District Investigative Crime Bureau (DCIB) of Dakshina Kannada district, which succeeded in nabbing the terror suspects, has launched a hunt for six others who are at large.

Three special teams have been constituted to investigate the terror network in the district, he said.
