New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh police's Special Task Force has arrested two suspected terrorists connected to the November 23 serial blasts in UP. The alleged terrorists are believed to belong to Harkat-ul-Jehadi-Islami (HuJI).

Fresh revelations coming from the police point towards Bangladesh and bring Huji terror outfits under the scanner. Speaking at a press conference the Additional Director General of Police Brij Lal said that the man behind the serial blasts, doctor Tariq Qasim, who has been arrested is in fact the chief of Huji outfit at UP.

“Mukhtar and doctor Tariq Kasmi planted the Gorakhpur blast. They were also behind the Faisabad blast. In the Benaras blast, Bangladeshi militant Mukhtar and two other terrorists were involved. This was the group that was involved also in the Sankatmochan blast,” he adds.

The alleged terrorists were arrested from Barabanki railway station in an early morning joint operation led by UP Police and central security agencies. The two have been identified as Tariq and Khalid Mohammed. According to official sources,1.25 kg of RDX and some gelatin sticks were recovered from them.

A month ago terrorists had triggered near-simultaneous blasts in court premises in three cities across Uttar Pradesh, killing at least 13 and injuring over 59.

Six bombs — three in Varansi, two in Faizabad and one in Lucknow — had gone off within a span of 15 minutes in the crowded court complexes between 1310 and 1325 hours. Some of bombs were believed to have been planted on cycles.

A little-known terrorist outfit, Indian Mujahideen, had claimed responsibility for the serial blasts.

According to UN intelligence agencies, senior UP police officials had received an email in which the outfit had owned up to the attacks.
