Two top Hizbul militants shot dead in J&K

New Delhi: The army shot dead two self-styled commanders of Hizbul Mujahideen in a gunbattle in Doda district on Wednesday.

The police and 10 Rashtriya Rifle troops launched an operation in Ghatt area of Doda district after they received some information.

News agency PTI quoted Senior Superintendent of Police, Doda, Manohar Singh as saying that the gunbattle took place between hiding militants and security forces for over two hours

The two have been identified as Mohmmad Shafi alias Nasir code Delta One, self-styled divisional commander of Jammu region and Javed Iqbal alias Umar Gazi, self-styled district commander, Doda.

While Shafi was active since 1995, Javed was involved in militancy since 2000.

The recoveries from the spot included two AK rifles, two magazines, 110 rounds, four Chinese grenades and some explosive material.
