Nikhita's biological mother, Nazia, abandoned her outside a police station when she was just nine months old.
Nikhita was lucky to find a loving home with Bikshaapathi and his wife. But 13 months later, Nazia returned to claim her daughter.
"I will work hard to give her a good life. I gave birth to her and she should live with me. I live for her," Nazia says.
Meanwhile, Bikshaapathi and his wife are heartbroken and the police confused.
"My wife is in a very bad state. She says she will kill herself if they take her baby away. But I am sure no one will take our baby away from us," Bikshaapathi says.
Police officials won't get into the controversy and say their concern is the baby's security. "I have to take care of the safety of the girl is more important. The mother has no permanent income and does not have a home to bring up the child," says Station House officer, Saroornagar police station, A Venkata Ratnam.
Nikhita is oblivious of the controversy surrounding her.
