Greater Noida: Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn said on Thursday that tyre strategy would play a big role in the outcome of the Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix come Sunday.
The Mercedes team have struggled with tyre wear this entire season and last year dust on the track played a key role in setting tyre strategies.
"We will have to anticipate how the cars will behave on race day. Tyre strategy will be very important in the race," Brawn told reporters here.
Speaking about the current season, Brown said he was disappointed that the Mercedes team have not hit their stride yet.
"We haven't quite hit the mark yet this season, it's a bit disappointing. We would like to better our results."
Next season one of the major revisions approved by the World Motor Sport Council is the establishment of a new engine formula, which will see the current 2.4-litre V8s replaced with 1.6 litre four-cylinder units.
Talking on the issue, Brawn said that the car for the 2013 season still needed a lot of development work.
"We still have a long way to go to develop the car for next season. It's in the process, hopefully we will have a more competitive car than what we have had this year."
