Bhadohi (Uttar Pradesh): Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit is in eastern Uttar Pardesh campaigning in Varanasi, Bhadohi and Allahabad.
She has been a hit with the Purvanchal crowd who want development like all that has happened in Delhi.
Even as she wins over voters, she is also decimating opposition far away in Delhi.
Her old rivals Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar have been denied tickets following protest by the Sikh community.
When asked if it is a moral victory for her, Dikshit replies, "It is no personal victory for me at all because I am one of those who will abide by what the High Command says. What are the BJP and Akali Dal going to say now?"
She may be trying to divert attention but there is no escaping the fact that Tytler's exit is Dikshit's victory. Even Tytler hints at her negative role in an interview with a news agency
"It is the Akalis and the BJP's campaign against me. Somebody in my party may be part of it... somebody who does not like me played a trick," says Tytler.
Tytler has his reasons. Before he was shown the door and after Jarnail Singh's shoe flinging had triggered off widespread Sikh fury, Dikshit almost knew that the High Command would give in.
"Probably by this evening or so decision will be taken by the Congress party," she had said on Thursday.
In Purvanchal, the hat-trick queen of Delhi plays the matriarch and guarantees development if Congress returns to power.
She may have been able to script a success story for the Congress in Delhi by giving metro rails and flyovers, but in Uttar Pradesh it is not development but caste and religion that decide who will be king or queen.
