New Delhi: Shiv Sena's executive president Uddhav Thackeray has been named editor of the party's mouthpieces Saamna and Dopahar Ka Saamna, newspapers that patriarch Bal Thackeray edited till his death on November 17.

Bal Thackeray has now been named "founder-editor" of the dailies. Indicating his desire to keep a low profile, the name of Uddhav, the son of Bal Thackeray, appears only in the print-line of the last pages of the two papers.

While Uddhav will be the new editor, the papers' routine affairs will continue to be managed by trusted executive editors Sanjay Raut (Saamna) and Prem Shukla (Dopahar Ka Saamna).

Uddhav steps in as editor of Sena newspapers

While Uddhav will be the editor, the papers\' routine affairs will be managed by trusted editors as in the past.

Marathi broadsheet morninger Saamna was founded Jan 23, 1988, as a party mouthpiece to convey Thackeray's views to the Marathi masses, while Hindi eveninger tabloid Dopahar Ka Saamna was launched Feb 23, 1993, to woo north Indians settled in Maharashtra.

For the first time in their history, the newspapers, published by veteran party leader Subhash Desai, sported full black front pages the day after Bal Thackeray's death and the day after his public cremation.
