Kanhangad: CPM on Tuesday alleged that the ruling Congress led UDF government was trying to destroy state funded Kudumbashree, the women's Self Help Group for poverty alleviation programme. Speaking after inaugurating a party office at Pollakkad near Kanhangad in Kasargod district, CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan alleged that UDF was allergic' towards Kudumbasree from the time it assumed office and was continuing that attitude.

By promoting pro-congress 'Janashree mission', government is trying to destroy Kudumbashree, he said. The Janashree mission is an organisation of Congress leader M M Hassan and cannot be a substitute for Kudumbashree, Vijayan said. He demanded that Rs 14.46 crore allotted to the mission by the Centre be taken back and a probe conducted in this regard.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had recently termed as baseless CPM charge that government was trying to destroy Kudumbashree.
