New Delhi: UEFA confirmed on Thursday afternoon that they have received Arsenal's appeal against the two-game ban handed to striker Eduardo da Silva after he was found guilty of diving to win a penalty against Celtic in the Champions League play-off.
A statement on UEFA's official website reads:
"Arsenal FC have appealed against the two-match suspension imposed on striker Eduardo by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body on 1 September. The UEFA Appeals Body will hear the case on Monday 14 September at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland."
The Gunners reacted angrily to the suspension, with manager Arsene Wenger and members of the club's board of directors affirming that they were going to contest the suspension.
Wenger today reiterated his claims that he felt that Eduardo had been the victim of "a witchhunt", and asserted that the Gunners would use video evidence in their appeal, which seemed to contradict UEFA's claims that the player threw himself to the ground after Celtic keeper Artur Boruc came rushing off his line.
The Croatian international is now bracing himself for the jeers which are sure to ring in his ears when Arsenal play Manchester City at Eastlands on Saturday.
