CCTV captures terror, panic during 7/7 blasts

New Delhi: Dramatic new video footage of the 7/7 London bombings has been revealed in court on Thursday at the trial of the three men accused of helping the July 2005 London bombers.

On Friday, the jury at Kingston Crown Court was shown the moments two of the bombings occurred, a scouting mission by three of the bombers throughout London's transport network nine days before the attacks and photographs of the extensive damage the blasts caused.

The footage captures the moments before the bombers detonated their devices which killed 52 and injured hundreds.

In one example, taken from closed circuit television cameras at the British Medical Association building, the moments as one of the accused — Habib Hussain — detonated a bomb on the No. 30 bus in Tavistock Square, central London is shown.

The footage later showed terrified people cower as it exploded just before 10am, killing Hussain and 13 others before they try and flee the scene.

In another, CCTV on the bus in front showed panicked people jumping out of their seats as the bus explodes.

One CCTV camera shows a packed train approaching the platform at Liverpool St where commuters enter and then, about 40 seconds later as the train approaches Aldgate, the platform fills with smoke and dust as the bomb explodes.

The three accused have denied the charge of conspiracy and say their friendship with the bombers was innocent.

Prosecutors say that between November 17, 2004 and July 8, 2005, Waheed Ali, 24, Mohammed Shakil, 31, and Sadeer Saleem, 27, ''unlawfully and maliciously'' conspired with the four bombers and others unknown to cause explosions likely to endanger life or cause serious harm and injury.

The court has also heard the men had extensive contact with the bombers, which had been uncovered through mobile records, fingerprints on documents, family videos and surveillance.
