Click to play videoNew Delhi: The British government has formally asked India to provide evidence against one Indian national suspected to be involved in the failed car bomb terror attacks in Glasgow and London early this year.
The British government has sent a Letter Rogatory to the Indian government requesting concrete evidence against Kafeel Ahmed who died of burns after being injured in the failed attack, when he drove his jeep into the glass doors of the main airport terminal and set it ablaze.
Amongst the information which the British government is seeking is details of an SMS that contains the password to an e-mail account. The e-mail is believed to contain instructions to the prime accused Sabeel Ahmed by his brother Kafeel on what to tell the police and the family after the blast.
Any evidence that India provides will be put up before a British court when the case comes up for hearing on January 18 2008.
The home ministry has been liaising with the Australian and the British authorities since the summer attacks. The responsibility now lies with the Karnataka police to provide the required information.
“We would find out whatever information they need,” says DGP K R Srinivasan.
The information that the Indian government provides will decide the course of investigation to a large extent but whether the evidence will be enough to prove an Indian national's involvement in the Glasgow terror attack remains to be seen.
