UK suspects no history sheeters: Bangalore cops

New Delhi: A Bangalore Police team has questioned the family of Sabeel Ahmed, one of the two Indian doctors detained in Liverpool in connection with the attempted Great Britain bombings.

According to the Bangalore Police, background checks do not indicate that Sabeel or Kafeel or even the other Indian doctor who was detained in Brisbane, Mohd Haneef were involved in any prior terror plots.

Both Sabeel and Haneef had studied at Dr B R Ambedkar Medical College in Bangalore and Sabeel's parents are retired professors of Medical College.

Sabeel Ahmed's mother, Zakia Ahmed says she is still in shock over her son's arrest. She said she was clueless about what was happening.

Sabeel's brother Kafeel Ahmed - an aeronautical engineer - who drove the cylinder laden jeep to Glasgow airport is in the hospital with 90 per cent burns.

There are also reports that Kafeel referring to a secret environmental project during his conversation with parents days before the UK incidentsd

Meanwhile, according to sources in the Bangalore Police, the Australian Federal Police has turned down Haneef's family's request of talking to him over the phone.

Australia is also looking into adopting a single security system for all the states.

There have been arguments over the visa procedure in the country for overseas doctors.

Haneef, Sabeel and Kafeel Ahmed and a fourth suspect, Asif Ali, had all applied for a visa to the western Australian authorities to move to the UK. They were rejected by the western Australian authorities, but the Queensland authorities granted them visas.
