New Delhi: Pakistan's ruling coalition could collapse any moment, as Nawaz and Zardari are unable to overcome their differences. Nawaz Sharif has given an ultimatum to Pakistan Peoples Party ( PPP) to reinstate judges latest by Friday. However, Zardari sticking to his point that the restoration be done by parliament and the sitting judges not be disturbed.

There are also differences over nomination of the President. Sharif wants somebody not so well known, perhaps a neutral figure from Balochistan or Sindh. Zardari is yet to indicate his preference but the MQM says it will back Zardari's candidature and there speculation Musharraf's party the PML-Q may also back him.

If elected, Zardari will be able to overcome his reservations over restoring the judges. He may have no further interest in clipping the president's powers to dissolve parliament and sack the prime minister. He could also grant Musharaf indemnity.

"It's a political statement made by Pervez Musharraf. it is well known in Pakistan that Mush is not going to go anywhere outside Paksitan because he is waiting for a constitutional indemnity from the parliament,” says Hamid Mir

In an interview to Geo TV Musharraf hinted at a future political role for himself. “My resignation as President does not reflect my defeat as I resigned in the interest of Pakistan and its people," he said

In fact he is apparently weighing the prospects of joining the PML-Q. Here he would get a role that could continue to give him a central role in Pakistani politics.
