New Delhi: In the eye of a storm over the quota issue, HRD Minister Arjun Singh is raising the RSS bogey yet again.

On Sunday, without any provocation, he held a special press briefing and attacked the RSS out of nowhere.

In his statement released to the press, he said: "I am aware of the path I have chosen. But unmindful of all the acts of violence which the RSS may like to throw at me, it will not deter me."

The HRD minister is also facing stiff opposition from within his Cabinet on the OBC quota issue. Some feel that by alluding to the RSS' opposition to him, the minister was painting in saffron all those opposed to his quota agenda - both within and outside his government

"It was not desirable for Cabinet colleagues to do that once a decision has been taken on some issue," Arjun Singh said.

That's not all. He has also admitted that he has complained to the Prime Minister about Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal's recent statement on OBC reservation and as he plays his OBC card and brings in the RSS angle into it, he is also seeking help from the civil society in his battle against the RSS.

Political observers pointed out that by seeking help from the civil society to fight the RSS as a senior member of the UPA government, Arjun Singh was only trying to say that this government might have an economic agenda but lacks a political programme to counter the RSS?

And his message lay between the lines. The minister also made it quite clear that he is quite open to receiving help from outside and outsiders in order to counter those within the UPA, who are opposing his OBC and anti-RSS agenda.
