Hyderabad: Union Minister Dasari Narayana Rao's son Harihar Prabhu was allegedly kidnapped from a hotel room in Chittor town in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.

Rao, a Rajya Sabha MP from Andhra Pradesh, is the Minister of State for Coal in the Manmohan Singh Cabinet.

In a complaint filed at a police station in Chittor district, Prabhu's wife Susheela claimed by five-to-six unidentified armed men kidnapped her husband at around 1830 hours on Tuesday.

In case of a kidnapping, there is generally a ransom note or a ransom call, but the family has not received any such ransom call or note so far. The police are still investigating the case.

The police say the armed men barged into a hotel room in Seshapuram area, where Prabhu had put up, and took him away at gunpoint. Prabhu, his wife and their 10-year-old son had checked into the hotel earlier in the day.

The police have launched a manhunt to rescue Prabhu and nab the kidnapers.

According to sources there have been many family feuds within the Dasari Narayan Rao family. Harihar Prabhu's wife Susheela had in the past filed a complaint against her in-laws alleging harassment.

The couple had been living separately till recently following a marital discord. However, they were said to have reached a compromise and decided to live together.

In this backdrop, Prabhu had gone to Chittoor on February 24 to visit his in-laws. The couple, along with their son, had booked two rooms in the hotel.

Asked whether she suspected involvement of any family member in the kidnapping, Susheela said: "I suspect this is done by those who don't want us to live together."
