United, Bangalorites out to save city

Bangalore: The citizens of Bangalore have finally united to fight to save the city, where economic and industrial growth has far outpaced the development on the ground.

In spite of being Asia's fastest growing city, Bangalore's physical infrastructure has failed to meet the growing demand, leaving the civic amenities in a big mess.

For years now, the residents of Bangalore have been raising their voice for these causes, but they were always at a loss, not knowing how to get their problems solved.

What was missing was a comprehensive platform for them. That gap has now been filled after a group of enthusiastic citizens launched the Platform of Citizens' Associations recently. The citizens' body has a single-point agenda, to fight to save the city and restore it to what it once was.

"We floated this Platform of Citizens' Associations, wherein we can involve as many individuals and organisations as possible so that it can become a broad-based front with the sole demand to 'Save Bangalore'," VN Rajashekhar, organiser of the Platform of Citizens' Associations, says.

PCA is not an NGO, nor is it an umbrella body of resident welfare associations. They are a bunch of citizens who go the whole hog in ensuring responsible civic governance by building pressure on city corporators, MLAs and city planners.

"Some demands we have been able to achieve in less than a week, some have taken 15 days. And for some other problems, we have to fight consistently for one or two years. It is only then that we can finally achieve it," Rajashekhar adds.
