Univ backs sacked Kerala prof, slams college

Kochi: MG University Syndicate investigating the dismissal of professor TJ Joseph's has slammed the Newman College in Thodupuzha for his dismissal calling it illegal.

"The college failed to follow procedures in dismissing Professor Joseph. The college should rethink about his ouster," said MG University Syndidate on Thursday.

The professor's sister Maria Stella said that the University's decision was a victory for them.

Joseph was sacked by the college on September 4. The college said that Joseph had hurt religious sentiments by preparing a Malayalam question paper with alleged derogatory references to Prophet Mohammed.

Joseph, Head of the Department of Malayalam in the Newman College, a Christian institution, in Thodupuzha was attacked and his right hand chopped off on July 4.

Police have so far arrested 22 persons in connection with the attack.
