Lucknow: Lucknow University authorities have asked illegal residents to vacate employees’ residential quarters on the campus within 24 hours.
Eviction notices were served after officials found that around 80 people living illegally in the quarters. The notices are a part of University Vice-Chancellor R P Singh’s campaign to remove alleged criminals from the campus. The state government has alleged that Singh’s campaign is biased and ‘dictatorial’.
University officials said they would take the help of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation and the Uttar Pradesh Police to evict “outsiders” if they didn’t obey the eviction notices.
Officials said 135 students who were served suspension notices for alleged involvement in crimes have not sent replies. Many of these students are supporters of the ruling Samajwadi Party in the state.
Officials said these students would be expelled from the university if they didn’t reply to the suspension notices.
