New Delhi: Sports Minister Ajay Maken has now stepped in to help the Under-19 Indian cricket team captain, Unmukt Chand, solve his academic woes. He has sent a letter to the Vice Chancellor of the Delhi University requesting to not just let Unmukt take his exams, but also change rules for the sportspersons of the country.
"There is a need to change the rules as well as the mindset. There is a need to treat the sportspersons of the country differently," Maken said.
Despite winning the U-19 World Cup, Unmukt Chand the captain of the Under-19 cricket team, has been barred from appearing for his first year exams due to low attendance by the St Stephens College. The college is not budging from its stand.
Team India Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is also batting for Unmukt. He tweeted, "Marks for sports take back seat, attendance for now takes centrestage, this shows how much importance sports has in India. Sad to hear."
