New Delhi: Set in the 1920s China, The Painted Veil tells the story of the estranged Dr Walter Fane played by Edward Norton and his wife Kitty, played by Naomi Watts.
Adapted from William Somerset Maugham's novel, the film explores the different layers of a coarse relationship that slowly heals itself.
But what sets this John Curran movie apart are the astounding visuals and cinematography making this flick a travelogue to remote China.
“Saying that the movie is about healing and redemption where, after looking at the beautiful surroundings, they begin to find forgiveness and even tenderness,” said Naomi Watts.
The movie has been named one of the ten best movies of the year by the National Board Review and has been nominated for the best-adapted screenplay and best male lead role for next year's Independent Spirit awards.
“Saying the movie is more about the couple finding that their problems are relatively unimportant and that they find themselves and answer a higher calling,” said Edward Norton.
