Raebareli: Congress President Sonia Gandhi, along with her daughter Priyanka, addressed a rally in Raebareli on Tuesday. Addressing the crowds, Sonia said that the Uttar Pradesh government was not doing enough for the state. "The funds released for development work in UP has not reached the people of UP," she said.
"The money is being siphoned off. Corruption is rampant in the state," she stated.
"The UPA has never discriminated between states on the party lines. The UPA government has made same policies for all the states and released funds for development equally to all the states," Sonia added.
Before Sonia gave her speech, Priyanka welcomed her mother onto the podium, saying, "I welcome my mother Sonia Gandhi on her karmabhoomi. I will not address you as it is not proper to talk too much when leaders are present."
The remark may be seen as a negation of all the rumours doing the rounds of late, stating that the increasing visibility of Priyanka and Rahul during Congress election campaigns in UP, could be a hint that the two are ready to take over the party mantle from Sonia.
