Cuttack/New Delhi: Gangster Brijesh Singh, who carries a reward of Rs 500,000 on his head and was absconding for more than 20 years, has been arrested in Bhubaneswar.

Brijesh, 39, hails from Uttar Pradesh and is allegedly involved in 75 murders. He first came to the police’s notice in 1984 when he killed two persons to avenge his father's killing/

"We are flooded with reports on his crimes. He has got a sensational crime record in UP and Bihar,” said B K Behera, Orissa’s Director General of Police.

Plain-clothed Delhi Police officials arrested Brijesh near a shopping complex on Wednesday night. This, for a while, created confusion that it was a kidnapping.

Singh allegedly has links to gangster Dawood Ibrahim's gang as well and was mainly into extortion. It was a battle for supremacy with other gangsters. He always wanted to be the most powerful and feared the most.

"He was a terror," said Karnal Singh, Joint Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Delhi Police.

Singh will now be brought to Delhi for further interrogation.
