New Delhi: There seems to be no end to crimes against women in the country as the 18-year-old Hathras girl, who was set on fire by her jilted lover, succumbed to her injuries in Aligarh on Saturday. The 42-year-old accused had barged into the girl's house and set her ablaze with kerosene earlier this week.
The victim had suffered 90 per cent burns and her father also suffered burn injuries while trying to save her. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had assured probe and assistance to the family of the young girl.
The attacker, who was arrested would now also face murder charges. The girl was attacked inside her house in Sasni Gate area in Hathras. She was rushed to Aligarh with burn injuries, where she battled for her life for four days.
The father of the girl told police that his daughter had spurned the overtures of Arjun and he had been stalking her for some time.
Meanwhile, in another incident, two employees of a government-run hostel in Kushinagar have been removed after women residents complained of molestation by the hostel cook. The district administration swung into action after the incident came to light. Around 400 women reside in the hostel. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered in the case.
