New Delhi: Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh has always been a political hotbed and this time it's a battle for survival between old friends turned foes - Azam Khan and Amar Singh.

Former Samajwadi leader Amar Singh, says, "Mulayam Singhji has betrayed everybody. He is telling recovery agents to collect money ensuring them that the next government would be formed by SP."

Sp leader Azam Khan says, "Amar Singh is a broker. If he is truly a man, he should fight against me."

Rampur is an old battleground. The faces are the same but the tone is different and divided. It's a battle between friends turned foes. Mulayam's former man Amar singh now finds himself increasingly isolated in this Samajwadi party stronghold where local leader Azam Khan tops the popularity charts.

Reshma Afroz, Amar Singh's party candidate from Rampur City and a one-time SP member, says "Azam Khan has lost credibility."

It remains to be seen whether this match of words will impress voters here in Rampur, while they may have their local loyalties most of them will have very basic issues like price rise on their minds when they go out to vote.

But this time elections in Rampur are more about the fight for survival between Azam Khan and Amar Singh, and issues like inflation may just take a back seat.
