Lucknow: UPA's Presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday said that Uttar Pradesh was the most important contributor in the Presidential election and he had come to thank MPs and MLAs for their support.
"I came here to meet MPs and MLAs of all parties. UP is one state where there are a number of parties, SP, BSP, Congress, ally RLD and some independents..in all maximum number of members helped me, therefore, I came to express my
gratitude," Mukherjee said.

Pranab said that UP has the maximum voting value in the electoral college on the basis of population of the state.
He said that Presidential election was different from general elections.
"The difference is that general public did not participate in this election...elected representatives whether MLA or MP participate in this election," he said.
Mukherjee said that UP has the maximum voting value in the electoral college on the basis of population of the state. "In total voting value of the electoral college in around 11 lakh of this UP's share is near two lakh votes. In Presidential election UP is the most important contributor," he said.
Mukherjee also said that in the morning SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and Chief Minister akhilesh Yadav arranged a lunch in which a large number of MPs and MLAs, including those of Congress and allies were present.
"Later I had a discussion with members of Congress and allies. After this I will have a talk with Mayawati and after that I will leave," he said.
