Pratapgarh: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav faced protests in Pratapgarh on Wednesday when he went to meet the family of the panchayat chief and his brother who were murdered in Kunda.

A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) was also killed in the violence that followed after the murder of the gram pradhan and his brother. The two had some land dispute with the driver of former UP Cabinet minister Raghuraj Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya. Raja Bhaiya had resigned following the murder and is now facing a CBI inquiry.

The father of the panchayat chief said Akhilesh heard the family members and also presented the widows of the two brothers with Rs 20 lakh.

"We are satisfied. He (Akhilesh) assured security to our family and gave us financial help. He also promised us that he will help in withdrawing the cases against us," said a family member.

Akhilesh also assured the family protection and jobs for two family members. "We have given Rs 20 lakh to the widows of the slain gram pradhan and his brother. The government will take strong steps to nab the culprits. We have referred the case to the CBI," the chief minister added.
