New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government has been issuing cheques to farmers reeling under droughts in Bundelkhand but unfortunately no one has noticed where these cheques are going. People who have never owned any land are receiving most of them.
“I got Rs 100 but I have no land,” says Rajesh Singh who has no land in UP.
And farmers who have been suffering for the last four years have got a maximum of Rs 100 as compensation.
Surya Prakash who is a farmer says, “More than 68 cheques have been issued but none of the farmers have gotten any money. We also went to the SDO but no reply.”
The administration proposes to look into it.
Banda DM Umesh Mittal says, “There has been some problem with the cheques. Rectification will be done soon.”
The casual way in which the officials are dealing with the issue is clearly indicative of the priority they give to the plight of the farmers.
