US election flavour in Delhi

New Delhi: Its not just that the money has been pumped in by the Obama supporters in the US but even in India an Obama camp is going all out to make sure that he wins giving a last minute thrust to the entire campaign.

Lorena is just a 12th grader at the American embassy school in Delhi but she's working long hours- checking out a long list of American citizens living in the capital just to make sure they have posted their absentee ballots she says its all for Obama.

“He's an intellectual and he'll prove to be a great leader if he wins,” says Lorena.

Like Lorena there are several young US citizens living in the capital who take time out for a group called Democrats-Abroad in India.

“In the end in the swing states it is that place where every vote counts," says Chairperson, Democrats Abroad Carolyn Suvage Mar.

The Obama supporters gather almost every day at a flat in Delhi. The head of the organization Carolyn has jobs cut out for them. Hundreds of calls have to be made each day But Carolyn keeps up the spirits with brownies and cans of beer.

What these volunteers of the Obama camp are actually doing here is what they call phone-banking. Efforts like these clearly show the American art to utilize the information and communication technology to the fullest.

The Democrat campaign as of now is focused on battleground states like Florida, Minnesota where the fight is going to be tough.

"Every vote counts and legally every vote is counted before the results are declared .so in Florida in 2004 Florida hinged on 500 votes and we can make difference,” says Sera Hyne.

For now Obama camp is keeping their fingers crossed because in the end every single vote will prove precious.
