New Delhi: Indian students at the Trivalley university, California now face virtual imprisonment. Indian students have been tagged to restrict their movements - his crime - he signed up for a course at the university which has now been de-recognised by the US.
The Tri Valley University was shut down two weeks back after investigators found the university was involved in an immigration fraud.
According to investigators no course was taught there - and that these students ended up working illegally, all over United States. Most of the students are from Andhra Pradesh.
Overseas Indian minister Vayalar Ravi said, "Can't comment till I see the full report. Many students had gone legally. We have requested them to take the matter leniently."
More than 1400 Indian students who went to the University now face deportation. They have sent a petition to the US Homeland Security department and immigration claiming they are not offenders since they were duped by the university. But far away from home, their future lies uncertain.
